According to the official website of the UK monarchy, "there are no obligatory codes of behaviour — just courtesy". However, many people wish to observe the traditional forms of greeting.
Firstly, everyone (except the Queen Mother when she was alive) has to stand up when the monarch enters a room.
When meeting her, women should curtsey (a small bob) while men should bow with their heads (not from the waist or too deeply). Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way.
